If you are like me, redecorating your house sounds like a fun project that will allow me to be creative. However, the flip side of this, is that there are many variables to consider when redecorating your home, and it can also be a very expensive endeavor. Not everyone has a bank account full of money to spend on something like this, but that does not have to stop you. There are so many ways to save money and minimize the cost of your redecorating no matter what room, or rooms, you are planning to take on. I have done a fair share of redecorating myself and am aware of the challenges and tricks that may be helpful to know about before you start.
Start with a Plan
The best way to make sure you are making efficient use of your time and money, is to make a good plan from the very beginning. Do not let things get overwhelming by letting chaos take over. If you have everything laid out to begin with, it is a lot easier to see things in a linear fashion. Figure out which space or spaces you want to begin with. I recommend only tackling one room at a time, this way you can still live in the house and it also prevents you from blowing your whole budget in one sweep, thinking you will have everything covered for the whole project. Once you figure out where you are going to start you should settle on a design scheme, palette, or even theme.
Look for Sales and Discounts
There are so many ways to get name brand products and furniture at discounted prices if you are willing to shop around. Many times, you can find online sales or coupons for places like Bed Bath and Beyond, or other home goods stores. Furniture can be bought second hand, which may add a vintage feel to your décor. Check stores like the Goodwill and Salvation Army. You never know what you will find in a second-hand store. There are so many things that people get rid of but still have a lot of use left in them. Shopping online, or in online forums and message boards can occasionally lead to a good deal. Facebook usually has a local buy and sell group for wherever you are located.
Do Not Be Afraid to Ask for Help
It may seem like doing everything yourself is the quickest and cheapest way to get something done, but sometimes that is not the case. You might be surprised with the handy skills of one of your friends if you reach out and ask. Or perhaps you need to hire someone else because you risk doing a job improperly because you do not possess the skills to accomplish the task. You can usually find local help on something like Angie’s List. Another option is to ask for recommendations for anyone who has done a redecorating job in the past.
